Rumble In The Jungle – Managing In Tough Business Times

rumbleJunglepreneurs by nature of the tough terrains they operate in will face rumbles in the jungle or tough business periods quite often. The good news is that often the Junglepreneur comes out on top, however it is important to bear in mind a few things to do when the rumbles occur. In this regard it is important to note that when under pressure the brain will be working overtime trying to analyse and give ideas. It is also trying to manage any chemical and hormone imbalance or over production in the body as a result of stress.

So a first step is to ensure you eat regularly and very well when under pressure as this allows the brain to get the necessary nutrition to perform properly. A well balanced meal of fruits, vegetables, protein, carbohydrates, fats and oil will be very useful. Avoid too much sugar, alcohol, nicotine or caffeine at these times as they may worsen the chemical imbalance of the body which is already in a high stress situation. When under pressure and even at all times the junglepreneur should also try to get some good exercise which ideally should be at least 3 times a week. The release of endorphins which are feel good hormones due to exercising helps to also relieve stress and pressure.

Also apportion particular times to face various situations squarely which may arise from the pressure. To manage the volume of pressure and demands for attention, the Junglepreneur should reschedule meetings or phone calls to more convenient times so as to get some much needed breathing space. However there will be times when it may be necessary for you to also completely shut down for a while. This means staying away from meetings, phones, laptops and email for a reasonable time so as to regain a sense of calmness and direction.

If you can, try to go away for some time visiting friends & family or go for a vacation if you can afford it. You could also try to do any other activity that will take your mind away from the issues for a few days like a sporting event, hiking trip, cycling, fishing, charity or religious event, recreational activity, hobby etc. Except in peculiar situations, don’t be overly concerned about going away from the problems for a while as most often they can wait for you to get back by which time you would be in a healthier state. When you eventually return, oftentimes you come back with a fresh perspective and you are fully empowered to properly deal with all the business issues or rumbles which also will eventually pass with time.
